Easy Breathing program yields positive results
The Easy Breathing program is standardizing the treatment and diagnosis of asthma at Akron Children’s, while demonstrating significant decreases in the number of asthma-related ER visits and hospitalizations over the past 2 years. Considine expansion focused on families

On March 9, we officially broke ground on the expansion of the Considine Professional Building. The addition will consolidate most of our ambulatory and subspecialty practices under one roof to provide convenient care for families. Read more
Board of Directors commend staff efforts
At their February meeting, our Board of Directors issued a formal resolution to thank employees for their extraordinary efforts in managing our high patient volumes in January and February. Read more
Department and Service Updates
Bone health guidelines now available
Our bone health team, led by Kathryn Mosher, has prepared guidelines for ordering DXA scans and treating vitamin D deficiency in pediatric patients. Read more
Meet Courtney and her NDSC support team

With the help of her family and medical care team, 11-year-old Courtney Kirsch has been able to overcome many of the challenges associated with her premature birth, including mild cerebral palsy. Read more
Turner Syndrome conference set for April

On April 9, we will host Hot Topics in Turner Syndrome for girls and women with the condition, their families and caregivers. The information will be presented in 3 separate, age-appropriate tracks. Read more

Clinical trial recruitment
Find out which clinical trials are currently recruiting patients here. Don’t see yours? If you’d like assistance in meeting your clinical trial recruitment goals, the Research Institute can help by getting them published on our website and developing recruitment materials. Contact the Research Institute’s grants and medical writer Jennifer Clark at 330-543-5296 to get started. Contact Joanne Green to discuss recruitment materials.
There’s still time to take investigator survey
The IRB and Research Institute are working to determine the status of exempt studies to ensure that information is current. If you’re an investigator of an exempt study, take a moment to respond to the 4-question survey emailed to you on March 7 (reminder sent March 21). If you have questions, can’t locate your survey email, or aren’t sure whether you already took the survey, please contact Research Institute data management specialists Lisa Shauver (330-543-1086) or Susan Testa (330-543-0481). To all of our investigators who’ve already responded, thank you!

Neil McNinch MS, RN, biostatistician for the Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute, will offer a compelling Introduction to Biostatistics in Clinical Research. Research experience is not required, but if you’re conducting research or interested in getting started, you’ll want to attend.

Building a Culture of Research
Tuesday, April 18 from 12-1 p.m.
Classrooms 5 and 6 of the Considine Professional Building 

Annette Mitzel, DNP, CNS, RN, and Mark Redding, MD, FAAP, directors of the Center for Childhood Lifestyles and Population Health Research will spotlight medical staff. Research experience is not required. Anyone interested in learning more about how we are building a culture of research is invited.
