Pedestrian bridge in place

In early January, the construction crew spent nearly 10 hours hoisting a 62-ton, 130-foot long pedestrian bridge into its final resting place, which connects the already-completed parking garage to the new medical building’s 3rd floor outpatient surgery center. Once it's done, the pedestrian bridge will feature a colored lighting system that will direct patients and families to the building. Read more

 

New MRI debuts in the Valley

 
A new top-of-the-line scanner was installed in the Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley’s radiology department. This new medical imaging equipment will allow doctors to conveniently and efficiently diagnose illnesses in children. Read more

Spotlight on pediatric palliative care

 
Sarah Friebert, MD, director of the Haslinger Family Pediatric Palliative Care Center, was recently interviewed by the New Yorker about pediatric palliative care. The article highlighted Dr. Friebert’s efforts to lobby Congress and the Department of Health and Human Services to support legislation that will help pay for pediatric palliative care. Read more

App educates cancer survivors

Akron Children’s recently launched the CancerLateFX app, which was created to help educate childhood cancer survivors about the long-term health outcomes that can affect them later in their lives. The app was funded by Hyundai Hope on Wheels. Read more
