| Doggie Brigade celebrates 20 years |

In 1992, Akron Children’s was the second hospital in the country to create a volunteer pet program for patients. The “Doggie Brigade” recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. The program enables patients to interact with the dogs, creating warmth and excitement for children who are staying in the hospital. The Doggie Brigade started with only eight dogs and now has 88 canine helpers. Learn more |

Aiden McKoski, a six-year-old with autism, struggles with everyday interactions. He recently received an iPad, which has resulted in significant breakthroughs in his communication skills. “For Aidan, the iPad is opening new doors and allowing Aidan to build his vocabulary,” said Lisa Gonidakis, a speech therapist at Akron Children’s. | Mahoning Valley’s Child Advocacy Center moves to Beeghly campus |
Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley recently relocated its Child Advocacy Center to the Beeghly campus. The center provides medical and forensic evaluations for children and teens that may have been sexually abused and serves five counties, including, Ashtabula, Columbiana, Mahoning counties in Ohio and Mercer County in Pennysylvania.
